Monroe Country Girls Swim and Dive Meet Results

We hosted the Monroe County Championships today in Milan. As a team, we swam and dove lights out. We came away with a 3rd pace finish, and with the group we had today could not have done much more than we did. Team scores were: Monroe 573 Bedford 460.5 Milan 451 Dundee 390 Erie Ida 299.5 Diving was held first and Milan got off to a great start. We went 1-2 in diving with Kaylin Brown taking the win for the 4th straight year. Haley Lancaster adjusted her schedule to make sure she helped our team, and took 2nd, before leaving right after to run for the Milan XC team!!! The first swim event saw the B relay of Sofia Pardo, Emma Brown, Jemma Kovach and Cristina Wilson take 8th. The A relay of Afton Presley, Tori Kimberly, Avery Hovatter and Ashtyn Bergstrom set the lane on fire to take the win and crush the state cut!!! The 200 Free was another win for Milan as Evelyn Gill cruised to the win in a lifetime best and state cut. Kenleigh Vandergift swam a lifetime best and took 6th for more points for the Big Reds. The 200 IM, was a 2,3 finish for Milan as Hovatter made the state cut for 2nd and Presley was close behind for 3rd. Both were lifetime best times. In the 50 Free, Kendal Preazzola had a lifetime best, Amanda Pena swam her very first race ever and finished in 29th!! Bergstrom finished in 9th, and Kimberly was just off the state cut and was the runner up in the event. The 100 Fly was another Milan Win as Hovatter crushed the state cut in a lifetime best, and freshman Kovach dropped huge time and finished in 6th. The 100 Free was a 4, 6 finish as Vandergift had a great swim to take 4th and Bergstrom had a lifetime best to claim 6th. In the 500 Free Gill had a great swim to 1st, while Cristina Wilson had a lifetime best to finish in 7th. The 200 Free Relay was another state cut for Milan, as Gill, Hovatter, Vandergift and Kimberly took 2nd, and the B relay of Pardo, Kovach, Emma Brown and Wilson took 9th. The 100 Backstroke was strong for Milan, as Pardo dropped huge time to take 13th and Presley finished runner up in the event in a lifetime best and state cut. The 100 Breast was excellent, as Kovach was 2nd, Kimberly 3rd and Emma Brown dropped 4 seconds off her best time to take 10th. To finish the meet, Presley, Bergstrom, Gill and Vandergift had a fantastic swim to take the win. The B relay of Pena, Wilson, Emma Brown and Pardo took 10th. On the day we had 6 wins of the 12 events. The girls accumulated over 30 best times and splits. We could not be more proud of the meet the girls put together today.
