Saturday, we traveled to Battle Creek Lakeview High School for the Spartan Relay meet. We swam and dove very well with our group, and finished 8th out of 11 teams. We were the smallest team at the event by far, but competed hard and excelled. The Divers got us started and did excellent. Kaylin Brown and Agne Zukuvskyte both dove very well. The 200 Breast Relay of Evelyn Gill, Afton Presley, Jemma Kovach and Tori Kimberly claimed 5th in a very tight race. The 400 Free relay saw excellent swims from all four girls, with Avery Hovatter, Cristina Wilson, Ashtyn Bergstrom and Kenleigh Vandergift taking 7th out of 17 teams. The 400 IM relay was another 5th place finish, with Hovatter, Gill, Presley and Kovach battling the field of 13 relays. Our 200 Back Relay was a chance for some of the girls to swim a new stroke in competition. Vandergift, Bergstrom, Kovach and Wilson all swam excellent and we took 12th overall. The 200 Medley Relay was a 2nd place finish for Milan. Presley, Kimberly, Hovatter and Gill were in a back and forth race with a fast field. All 4 girls swam fantastic and we finished runner up and just off the state cut. Excellent for an early season swim. The meet ended with the 200 Free Relay. Bergstrom, Wilson, Vandergift and Kimberly took a close 4th, out of 17 relays. All four swam incredibly well. Relay meets are largely about the size of your team. We made the most of the girls we had, and all 10 girls we had at the meet did their part. The returning athletes are ahead of where we were at this point last season, and we had several lifetime best times. Photo Credit: Stephen Cook
