We hosted the SMISL Relays to kick off our season Saturday. With lots of new athletes and being the first meet of the year, the meet was lots of fun. We battled and performed very well for the start of the year. We came away with 2nd place, bolstered by our numbers. Team Scores: Adrian 406 Milan 368 Bedford 298 Tecumseh 292 Notre Dame Prep 152 We were battling illness for our athletes all week, but had most of them back for the meet. The boys really stepped up and executed the races well. This is a great and hard working group. We are very excited to see what we can do with continued training and development. The meet started with the Dive Relay. Freshmen Caleb Furlong and Luke Keel dove very well and took 5th in the relay. The Medley relay saw our A group of Alec Markham, Cameron Garcia, Jamison McShane and Landon Brice take 5th, while the B relay of Ryan Johnson, Hank Bobicz, Caleb Furlong and Stevie Garcia took 6th. The 200 Free Relay saw a runner up finish from the relay of Reed Neuvirth, Landon Brice, Owen Stripp and Dylan Nichols. The relay of Joe Bilyk, Stevie Garcia, Dylan Penzien and Ian Satterly took 6th. The Kick Relay of Stevie Garcia, Bilyk, Satterly and Neuvirth claimed 4th, and the relay of Tumusiime, Tumusiime, Rice and Penzien took 5th. The Breaststroke relay of Cameron Garcia, Bobicz, Nichols and McShane took 4th. The 600 Free Relay saw great swims for many. Our Relay of Johnson, Stripp, and Nichols took 5th, and the Relay of Penzien, Satterly, and Cedric Tumusiime took 6th. The Meet concluded with the Under Over Relay, where our group of Bobicz, Cameron Garcia, Markham and McShane took 5th. The boys being willing to challenge themselves and swim what we needed, and finish all their races legally is what allowed us to take the runner up finish. We had the most relays of any school in the meet. The boys responded and competed hard. Thanks for your support and coverage of our boys. It is going to be an exciting year of development of a new and young team. Dan Heikka Photo Credit: Stephen Cook
