The Milan Girl’s Swimming and Diving team traveled to Holland to take part in the D3 State Championships. We had a fantastic weekend and came home with a 12th place finish out of 76 teams in our Division. The Medley Relay of Afton Presley, Mary Kate Wayne, Avery Hovatter and Kelsie Gillay took 10th in an incredible finals swim taking a second off our prelims swim from the day before. In the 200 Free Lila Mckenna match a career best and finished in 18th. In the 200 IM Sara Mitchell had a career best to finish 24th and Evelyn Gill had a career best and the 17th fastest time in our storied history to finish in 17th. Kaylin Brown dove against a very tough field and took 31st place. Mary-Kate Wayne moved up a place from her prelim swim and finished in 15th in the 15th fastest time in our swimming history. The 500 was a huge event for us, as Lila Mckenna had a tremendous swim in finals to to move from her 16th seed to all the up to 10th place, and Evelyn Gill battled a tremendously talented field to finish All State and 5th with the 8th fastest time ever for a Milan Swimmer. The 200 Free Relay of Kelsie Gillay, Avery Hovatter, Lila McKenna and Evelyn Gill took 21st in our season best time. In the 100 Breast, Tori Kimberly finished in 38th after just making her state cut last week. Kelsie Gillay had career bests in both prelims and finals to qualify 14th, then moved up to 10th. Kelsie finishes her career with the 6th fastest time in Milan. Senior Mary-Kate Wayne had a phenomenal weekend and notched career bests in both prelims and Finals on the way to being All State for the 4th straight year in the event and finishing Runner Up in the event. Mary Kate’s time sets her at 2nd All Time in our history, only behind a future NCAA Champion. The 400 Free Relay of Evelyn Gill, Avery Hovatter, Lila McKenna and Mary Kate Wayne swam incredible and finished in 16th to round out our scoring and the meet for the Big Reds. The Meet marked the end of another great year for Milan Swimming and Diving. It also marked the end of the High School career for our Seniors. Mary Kate Wayne, Lila Mckenna, Sara Mitchell and Kelsie Gillay. We will miss these and all our other seniors tremendously. The last 4 years have been incredible with 2 top 4 State Finishes, 4 straight Monroe County Titles and 4 Huron League Championships. Thank you to all our fans who made the trip to Holland this weekend, as we had about 50 very vocal fans in the stands. Thank you also to all our other supporters throughout the season, the school administration and the Milan Community for all your support. This has been a great year. The staff are incredibly proud of the girls. Their hard work, passion, and commitment to excellence shined through. Photo Credit: Stephen Cook.
